The Forest of Dean might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of iconic cycling destinations… but after this ride, it absolutely should be. In this vlog I set out for a full day of riding in one of England’s oldest surviving woodlands, starting from New Fancy car park and joining the Colliers Family Trail towards the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre. The moment you enter the forest, you’re surrounded by rolling hills, ancient oak woodland and a landscape shaped by centuries of history. Once a royal hunting forest and later a hub for coal mining and ironworking, today the Forest of Dean has become a paradise for outdoor adventure. On the way to the trail centre, the ride passes the beautiful Cannop Ponds. Originally built in 1825 to supply water to a nearby ironworks, these lakes are now a peaceful wildlife haven. Ducks, swans and dragonflies skim across the water, walkers stroll the shoreline, and the calm atmosphere makes it the perfect warm-up before the main ride begins. Arriving at the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre — the main hub for cycling in the forest — it’s easy to see why this place is so popular. With bike hire, a café, parking, a skills area and trails for every level of rider, it’s the perfect base whether you’re here for a relaxed family day out or a full-on mountain bike session. Today’s goal: the Verderers Trail. This 11 km blue-graded mountain bike route is widely considered one of the best flow trails in the UK, designed to be fun, progressive and confidence-building without being overly technical. The trail begins with a gentle climb that winds through tall pines and dappled sunlight, giving your legs time to warm up before the real fun starts. As the trail unfolds, it transforms into a rollercoaster of sweeping berms, flowing corners, undulating rollers and fast woodland descents. The track snakes through mossy banks and under arching trees, linking corner after corner in a way that keeps your speed high and the smiles constant. Short punchy climbs break up the flow just enough to keep things interesting, before tipping you into another thrilling descent. Midway through, the trail becomes playful, with small jumps and whoops that let you lift the wheels if you’re feeling confident. You weave between open sunlit sections and shaded corridors of spruce and oak, before carving through the final set of sculpted berms that bring you flying back to the cycle centre with that unmistakable “let’s do it again” feeling. After a well-earned café stop, the ride continues — and this is where the Forest of Dean really shows its wild side. I was lucky enough to spot deer crossing the trail, a reminder that this forest is home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Fallow deer, roe deer and muntjac roam the woodland, while wild boar have returned after centuries away. Buzzards soar overhead, woodpeckers echo through the trees, and kingfishers dart along the forest streams. To finish the day, I rejoined the Family Trail to loop back towards New Fancy car park. This relaxed route follows old railway lines that once served the region’s coal and iron industries, creating gentle gradients and wide, easy riding. Along the way, you pass remnants of the forest’s industrial past — old sidings, loading bays and former colliery sites — now reclaimed by nature and surrounded by peaceful woodland. By the end of the ride, the Forest of Dean had delivered the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Flow trails, wildlife, history and beautiful scenery all wrapped into one unforgettable day on the bike. Ibiza might be world-famous for its nightlife, but beyond the clubs and beach bars lies a completely different side of the island — one that’s quiet, rugged, and surprisingly perfect for road cycling. In this Ibiza road cycling vlog, I explore the island on two wheels, discovering smooth tarmac, winding coastal roads, pine-scented countryside lanes, and peaceful whitewashed villages far removed from the party scene. With its mild Mediterranean climate and varied terrain, Ibiza is an incredible year-round cycling destination — whether you’re looking for relaxed scenic rides or short, punchy climbs with technical descents and jaw-dropping views. My journey begins arriving by ferry into Ibiza Old Town (Eivissa), where I take some time to wander the historic streets, explore the shops, and enjoy dinner before experiencing a taste of the island’s famous nightlife. Even without drinking, Ibiza’s evening atmosphere is something special. I head to Blue Marlin at Cala Jondal — one of the island’s most iconic beach clubs — where luxury lounging, seaside dining, and DJ-driven energy blend together right on the sand. A little dance, a great atmosphere… and then an early night. A big ride awaits. The next morning, I start my cycling route from the peaceful village of Sant Joan, tucked away in the quiet, rural north of Ibiza. Known for its bohemian vibe and whitewashed charm, Sant Joan is surrounded by pine forests, rolling hills, and some of the island’s most untouched roads — an ideal base for cycling. Before setting off, I grab a quick bite to eat at a local café in the village, making sure I’m fuelled and not spending the entire ride searching for snacks. The route is a 40km loop with around 400 metres of climbing, heading south towards the coast and looping back inland. Leaving Sant Joan, the first few kilometres are relatively flat, offering an easy warm-up along the island’s central roads. Soon, I turn off onto quiet country lanes, where flowers are in full bloom, the smell of pine fills the air, and traffic is almost non-existent. The roads here are silky smooth, and the warm Mediterranean sun makes for perfect riding conditions. I pass through scenic countryside near Sant Llorenç de Balàfia before continuing on back roads towards Santa Gertrudis. Meadows, olive groves, orchards, and elegant white villas line the route, while shaded pine forests provide a welcome contrast to the open roads. As I descend gently towards the coast, the ride becomes fast, flowing, and incredibly fun. Before long, I reach Santa Eulària des Riu on Ibiza’s eastern coast — a relaxed seaside town known for its palm-lined promenade, marina, and café culture. It’s the perfect place to stop and refuel. After a short rest at a waterfront café, I roll along the promenade, through the town and past the marina, soaking in the crystal-clear water and laid-back coastal atmosphere. An unplanned moment sees me join a small group of cyclists riding through town — suddenly I’ve got a peloton and a set of very welcome domestiques! Leaving Santa Eulària, the second half of the ride turns uphill as I head back inland towards Sant Joan. The climbing is steady rather than extreme, and the quiet back roads through the Ibizan countryside make it thoroughly enjoyable. Near Safragell, I briefly join the EI-300 main road — a section I’d avoid next time in favour of quieter alternatives — before completing the loop back in Sant Joan. The ride wraps up as a relaxed, rewarding 40km loop that would suit most abilities, offering a perfect balance of scenery, smooth roads, and gentle climbing. Ibiza may be known for its nightlife, but for cyclists, it’s also a hidden gem — a secret training playground and an unforgettable off-season escape. 🚴‍♂️ Cycling the Quantock Hills | Wild Ponies, Forest Trails & Epic Views | MTB Adventure in Somerset, UK 🇬🇧 In this vlog, I head out for an unforgettable bike ride through one of England’s best-kept secrets — the Quantock Hills, located in Somerset, South West England. The Quantocks are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and it’s easy to see why. With their heather-covered moorland, ancient oak forests, steep valleys, and wide-open grassy hilltops, this landscape feels like something straight out of a storybook. It’s the perfect place to explore by bike — especially if you love gravel riding, mountain biking, or just getting off the beaten path. ⸻ 🏡 Starting in Nether Stowey – A Quintessential English Village I started my ride in Nether Stowey, a charming little village on the edge of the hills. With its traditional pubs, cosy tearooms, and friendly community vibe, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and take it all in. It’s also famous for being home to the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge — his old cottage is now a National Trust site called Coleridge Cottage. From here, I pedalled through a network of tiny country lanes and quiet villages, working my way toward the base of the Quantocks. That’s where the real adventure began… ⸻ 🌲 Entering the Great Wood – Into the Forest We Go Shortly after the village of Over Stowey, I entered The Great Wood, following a peaceful trail along the Cockercombe River through a beautiful area known as Cockercombe Bottom. The trail got steep fast, and I had to take a banana break (as you do 😅). A few gates and climbs later, I was out of the woods and up onto the open moorland, where the views were nothing short of stunning. ⸻ 🐴 Riding With Wild Ponies on the Moor This was the part I was most excited about — and it didn’t disappoint. The Quantock Hills are home to semi-wild Exmoor-type ponies, who roam freely across the hilltops. They’re technically owned by local farmers or “commoners,” but they’re totally wild in spirit. I found myself cycling right through a herd of them, and they didn’t seem to mind one bit! I also saw sheep hiding in the bracken, and cows chilling on the trails. It felt like I was riding through a giant, open-air nature reserve. ⸻ 🛤️ The Famous Drove Road – Ancient Trails With Big Views I followed the Drove Road, one of the most famous trails in the Quantocks. It’s an ancient route that was used to move livestock from village to village and down to market. These days, it’s a bridleway, which means it’s open to walkers, cyclists, and horse riders — and it offers some of the best views in the entire area. Even though the weather was a bit cloudy and breezy, the dramatic skies added to the atmosphere. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Bristol Channel and even over to South Wales. ⸻ 🐄 Cow Standoff, Sheep Patrol & a Pub Lunch One unexpected moment? A standoff with a large brown cow blocking the path. Let’s just say… he wasn’t in a hurry to move 😅 A curious group of sheep also wandered over to inspect my electric gears — clearly, they’re fans of good tech. After a morning of climbing, I descended into the village of Crowcombe, where I stopped at the Carew Arms pub for some much-needed fish and chips. Highly recommend if you’re ever in the area! ⸻ 🗺️ The Way Back – More Climbing, More Views After lunch, it was time to head back to Nether Stowey. The only catch? I had to climb back over the Quantock Hills! I passed Crowcombe Court, a beautiful historic house, and began the long climb up through Triscombe. The Quantocks aren’t the biggest hills in the UK, but they’re steep and not to be underestimated — especially with a belly full of chips. Finally, I descended back down through The Great Wood, navigating some tricky, rooty sections on the way down. It was challenging but super fun, and the forest was absolutely magical in the late-afternoon light. ⸻ 🎥 Vlog Highlights • 🏞️ Stunning moorland & sea views • 🐴 Wild pony encounters • 🐑 Sheep & cows casually chilling on the trails • 🌲 Epic forest riding through The Great Wood • ⛰️ Climbing to Will’s Neck – the highest point of the Quantocks • 🍽️ Classic British pub lunch in Crowcombe • 🚴‍♂️ Ancient trails with loads of character and history • 🧭 Full circular route: village → forest → hills → pub → back again! ⸻ ✅ Final Thoughts This ride was definitely one of my favourite UK cycling experiences so far. The variety of terrain, the natural wildlife, the historic trails, and the peaceful village atmosphere all combined to make it a really special day on the bike. Whether you’re into mountain biking, gravel grinding, or just love exploring hidden gems in the UK, the Quantock Hills should 100% be on your list.

🚴‍♂️ Cycling Through Dades Gorge, Morocco | Hairpins, Berber Villages & Epic Scenery 🇲🇦 Hidden deep within Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, Dades Gorge is one of the country’s most spectacular landscapes. In this vlog, I cycle through a dramatic canyon carved by the Dades River, passing remote Berber villages, lush river oases, towering rock walls, and the iconic mountain hairpins that have made this road famous. Dades Gorge is located in central-southern Morocco, between the towns of Boumalne Dades and M’semrir. Over thousands of years, the river has cut a deep, winding canyon through the red limestone, creating one of the most visually striking valleys in the region. Riding here feels like travelling through both nature and history at the same time. I’m staying in the small Berber village of Tamellalt, nestled in the Dades Valley just east of Boumalne Dades. Life here is simple and deeply connected to the land. Agriculture, animal rearing, and small-scale tourism shape daily life, and traditional ways of living are still very much present. Donkeys remain essential for transporting goods in the mountainous terrain, and locals are busy working the fields as the day begins. Just a few kilometres from my hotel lie the famous Monkey Fingers rock formations — a surreal landscape where wind and water have sculpted soft limestone into smooth, rounded shapes resembling giant fingers reaching skyward. A narrow canyon winds between these rocks, carved by a seasonal river that can be hiked during cooler months. It’s a stunning and otherworldly place, popular with hikers and photographers alike. Continuing along the valley, I pass through villages such as Aït Ouglif and Imzzoudar, where many homes are built from traditional adobe mud bricks made from sand, mud, water, and straw. Along the banks of the Dades River, fertile oases support date palms, fig trees, pomegranate trees, almond trees, olive trees, and crops such as barley, wheat, and corn. The contrast between the lush riverbanks and the surrounding desert mountains is striking. Islam is the main religion in the region, and it plays an important role in everyday life. It’s common to see women wearing hijab headscarves and men dressed in traditional djellabas — long, loose-fitting robes well suited to the climate and terrain. As I ride through the villages, children greet passing travellers with smiles and curiosity, adding warmth to the journey. One of the highlights of the ride is the legendary Tissadrine Hairpins. At this point, the gorge narrows so dramatically that the road can no longer follow the river. Instead, it climbs high above the valley walls in a series of beautifully engineered switchbacks. With each hairpin, the views become more dramatic, offering breathtaking perspectives over the gorge below. Despite the steep terrain, the climb is manageable and incredibly rewarding. At the top of the pass sits a small hotel and restaurant, marking the highest point of the road. I stop for a well-earned Moroccan mint tea, enjoy the incredible views, and even meet some playful puppies outside. Camels grazing on thorny bushes nearby add to the sense of being somewhere truly unique. After descending back into the valley, the road squeezes through one of the most impressive sections of the gorge, running tightly between the river and towering rock walls. Eventually, I turn back before M’semrir, where the tarmac ends and the heat begins to rise. The return journey includes a tougher climb back up the hairpins from the north side, sightings of people living in caves along the canyon walls, and a thrilling descent with minimal traffic and perfect road conditions. As I pass back through the villages, the valley comes alive — farmers begin their work, goats cross the road, and daily life unfolds along the riverbanks. This ride through Dades Gorge was an unforgettable experience — a journey through raw landscapes, ancient traditions, and one of Morocco’s most incredible roads. The friendliness of the people and the beauty of the surroundings made this a place I’ll always remember. Thanks for watching. 🌄 Road Cycling Sierra Espuña | El Berro to Alhama de Murcia + Cuestas del Marqués Climb 🚴‍♀️🇪🇸 Join me for an epic afternoon ride in one of southeastern Spain’s most stunning hidden gems: Sierra Espuña Regional Park in the Murcia region. This scenic cycling vlog starts in the peaceful mountain village of El Berro, perched at around 600 m above sea level, and winds its way through quiet forest roads, panoramic viewpoints, and one amazing descent you won’t want to miss! ⸻ ✨ Ride Summary 📍 Start/End: El Berro 📏 Distance: ~30km 📈 Elevation Gain: ~800m 🥐 Coffee Stop: Fuente del Hilo (YES to pastries!) 📸 Highlights: Carretera Juan Bautista, Ricardo Codorníu visitor centre, descent to Alhama, Cuestas del Marqués climb, Gebas badlands views, hairpin heaven! ⸻ 💬 About This Ride I kicked off the ride with a steep little warm-up climb out of my hotel in El Berro — a quiet and incredibly pretty village that’s ideal for cyclists and hikers wanting to explore Sierra Espuña’s natural beauty. You’re surrounded by rugged, pine-covered mountains and deep ravines, with barely a car in sight. The route starts on Carretera Juan Bautista, winding gently into the heart of the Parque Regional de Sierra Espuña. This protected area spans over 25,000 hectares and climbs up past 1,500 metres in elevation. Once heavily deforested, the park was reforested in the late 1800s by the legendary Ricardo Codorníu, now known as “The Apostle of the Tree” — and it really shows! 🌲 The first half of the ride was a dream: smooth roads, pine forests, and minimal traffic. I cruised up to the Fuente del Hilo restaurant, a popular cyclist hangout tucked into the forest near the visitor centre. After a quick stop for some local pastries and a sandwich, I pushed on past the Ricardo Codorníu centre and dropped into an incredible 10km descent toward Alhama de Murcia. The descent? Honestly one of my favourites ever. No cars, no braking, no pedalling — just flowy curves through the trees with views that stretched all the way to the distant plains. Pure cycling bliss. 🌀💨 At the bottom, I turned away from the town and headed up the Cuestas del Marqués — a climb that winds its way 9km back up toward El Berro. It wasn’t too steep, which was lucky because my legs were already feeling it! But the scenery made it worth every pedal stroke: orchards, vineyards, dramatic ridgelines, and even views across to the Barrancos de Gebas, the surreal badlands below. Halfway up, I stopped for water, took in the view, and gathered my energy for the final push. Near the top, the road was packed with tight hairpin turns — super fun to ride and very Insta-worthy 😍 Before long, I rolled back into El Berro, sweaty and happy, after what turned out to be a perfect afternoon loop. ⸻ 📍 Why You Should Ride Here If you’re planning a cycling trip in southern Spain, Sierra Espuña should definitely be on your radar. Short punchy climbs break up the flow just enough to keep things interesting, before tipping you into another thrilling descent. Midway through, the trail becomes playful, with small jumps and whoops that let you lift the wheels if you’re feeling confident. You weave between open sunlit sections and shaded corridors of spruce and oak, before carving through the final set of sculpted berms that bring you flying back to the cycle centre with that unmistakable “let’s do it again” feeling. After a well-earned café stop, the ride continues — and this is where the Forest of Dean really shows its wild side. I was lucky enough to spot deer crossing the trail, a reminder that this forest is home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Fallow deer, roe deer and muntjac roam the woodland, while wild boar have returned after centuries away. Buzzards soar overhead, woodpeckers echo through the trees, and kingfishers dart along the forest streams. To finish the day, I rejoined the Family Trail to loop back towards New Fancy car park. This relaxed route follows old railway lines that once served the region’s coal and iron industries, creating gentle gradients and wide, easy riding. Along the way, you pass remnants of the forest’s industrial past — old sidings, loading bays and former colliery sites — now reclaimed by nature and surrounded by peaceful woodland. By the end of the ride, the Forest of Dean had delivered the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Flow trails, wildlife, history and beautiful scenery all wrapped into one unforgettable day on the bike. Ibiza might be world-famous for its nightlife, but beyond the clubs and beach bars lies a completely different side of the island — one that’s quiet, rugged, and surprisingly perfect for road cycling. In this Ibiza road cycling vlog, I explore the island on two wheels, discovering smooth tarmac, winding coastal roads, pine-scented countryside lanes, and peaceful whitewashed villages far removed from the party scene. With its mild Mediterranean climate and varied terrain, Ibiza is an incredible year-round cycling destination — whether you’re looking for relaxed scenic rides or short, punchy climbs with technical descents and jaw-dropping views. My journey begins arriving by ferry into Ibiza Old Town (Eivissa), where I take some time to wander the historic streets, explore the shops, and enjoy dinner before experiencing a taste of the island’s famous nightlife. Even without drinking, Ibiza’s evening atmosphere is something special. I head to Blue Marlin at Cala Jondal — one of the island’s most iconic beach clubs — where luxury lounging, seaside dining, and DJ-driven energy blend together right on the sand. A little dance, a great atmosphere… and then an early night. A big ride awaits. The next morning, I start my cycling route from the peaceful village of Sant Joan, tucked away in the quiet, rural north of Ibiza. Known for its bohemian vibe and whitewashed charm, Sant Joan is surrounded by pine forests, rolling hills, and some of the island’s most untouched roads — an ideal base for cycling. Before setting off, I grab a quick bite to eat at a local café in the village, making sure I’m fuelled and not spending the entire ride searching for snacks. The route is a 40km loop with around 400 metres of climbing, heading south towards the coast and looping back inland. Leaving Sant Joan, the first few kilometres are relatively flat, offering an easy warm-up along the island’s central roads. Soon, I turn off onto quiet country lanes, where flowers are in full bloom, the smell of pine fills the air, and traffic is almost non-existent. The roads here are silky smooth, and the warm Mediterranean sun makes for perfect riding conditions. I pass through scenic countryside near Sant Llorenç de Balàfia before continuing on back roads towards Santa Gertrudis. Meadows, olive groves, orchards, and elegant white villas line the route, while shaded pine forests provide a welcome contrast to the open roads. As I descend gently towards the coast, the ride becomes fast, flowing, and incredibly fun. Before long, I reach Santa Eulària des Riu on Ibiza’s eastern coast — a relaxed seaside town known for its palm-lined promenade, marina, and café culture. It’s the perfect place to stop and refuel. After a short rest at a waterfront café, I roll along the promenade, through the town and past the marina, soaking in the crystal-clear water and laid-back coastal atmosphere. An unplanned moment sees me join a small group of cyclists riding through town — suddenly I’ve got a peloton and a set of very welcome domestiques! Leaving Santa Eulària, the second half of the ride turns uphill as I head back inland towards Sant Joan. The climbing is steady rather than extreme, and the quiet back roads through the Ibizan countryside make it thoroughly enjoyable. Near Safragell, I briefly join the EI-300 main road — a section I’d avoid next time in favour of quieter alternatives — before completing the loop back in Sant Joan. The ride wraps up as a relaxed, rewarding 40km loop that would suit most abilities, offering a perfect balance of scenery, smooth roads, and gentle climbing. Ibiza may be known for its nightlife, but for cyclists, it’s also a hidden gem — a secret training playground and an unforgettable off-season escape. 🚴‍♂️ Cycling the Quantock Hills | Wild Ponies, Forest Trails & Epic Views | MTB Adventure in Somerset, UK 🇬🇧 In this vlog, I head out for an unforgettable bike ride through one of England’s best-kept secrets — the Quantock Hills, located in Somerset, South West England. The Quantocks are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and it’s easy to see why. With their heather-covered moorland, ancient oak forests, steep valleys, and wide-open grassy hilltops, this landscape feels like something straight out of a storybook. It’s the perfect place to explore by bike — especially if you love gravel riding, mountain biking, or just getting off the beaten path. ⸻ 🏡 Starting in Nether Stowey – A Quintessential English Village I started my ride in Nether Stowey, a charming little village on the edge of the hills. With its traditional pubs, cosy tearooms, and friendly community vibe, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and take it all in. It’s also famous for being home to the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge — his old cottage is now a National Trust site called Coleridge Cottage. From here, I pedalled through a network of tiny country lanes and quiet villages, working my way toward the base of the Quantocks. That’s where the real adventure began… ⸻ 🌲 Entering the Great Wood – Into the Forest We Go Shortly after the village of Over Stowey, I entered The Great Wood, following a peaceful trail along the Cockercombe River through a beautiful area known as Cockercombe Bottom. The trail got steep fast, and I had to take a banana break (as you do 😅). A few gates and climbs later, I was out of the woods and up onto the open moorland, where the views were nothing short of stunning. ⸻ 🐴 Riding With Wild Ponies on the Moor This was the part I was most excited about — and it didn’t disappoint. The Quantock Hills are home to semi-wild Exmoor-type ponies, who roam freely across the hilltops. They’re technically owned by local farmers or “commoners,” but they’re totally wild in spirit. I found myself cycling right through a herd of them, and they didn’t seem to mind one bit! I also saw sheep hiding in the bracken, and cows chilling on the trails. It felt like I was riding through a giant, open-air nature reserve. ⸻ 🛤️ The Famous Drove Road – Ancient Trails With Big Views I followed the Drove Road, one of the most famous trails in the Quantocks. It’s an ancient route that was used to move livestock from village to village and down to market. These days, it’s a bridleway, which means it’s open to walkers, cyclists, and horse riders — and it offers some of the best views in the entire area. Even though the weather was a bit cloudy and breezy, the dramatic skies added to the atmosphere. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Bristol Channel and even over to South Wales. ⸻ 🐄 Cow Standoff, Sheep Patrol & a Pub Lunch One unexpected moment? A standoff with a large brown cow blocking the path. Let’s just say… he wasn’t in a hurry to move 😅 A curious group of sheep also wandered over to inspect my electric gears — clearly, they’re fans of good tech. After a morning of climbing, I descended into the village of Crowcombe, where I stopped at the Carew Arms pub for some much-needed fish and chips. Highly recommend if you’re ever in the area! ⸻ 🗺️ The Way Back – More Climbing, More Views After lunch, it was time to head back to Nether Stowey. The only catch? I had to climb back over the Quantock Hills! I passed Crowcombe Court, a beautiful historic house, and began the long climb up through Triscombe. The Quantocks aren’t the biggest hills in the UK, but they’re steep and not to be underestimated — especially with a belly full of chips. Finally, I descended back down through The Great Wood, navigating some tricky, rooty sections on the way down. 🚴‍♂️ Cycling Through Dades Gorge, Morocco | Hairpins, Berber Villages & Epic Scenery 🇲🇦 Hidden deep within Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, Dades Gorge is one of the country’s most spectacular landscapes. In this vlog, I cycle through a dramatic canyon carved by the Dades River, passing remote Berber villages, lush river oases, towering rock walls, and the iconic mountain hairpins that have made this road famous. Dades Gorge is located in central-southern Morocco, between the towns of Boumalne Dades and M’semrir. Over thousands of years, the river has cut a deep, winding canyon through the red limestone, creating one of the most visually striking valleys in the region. Riding here feels like travelling through both nature and history at the same time. I’m staying in the small Berber village of Tamellalt, nestled in the Dades Valley just east of Boumalne Dades. Life here is simple and deeply connected to the land. Agriculture, animal rearing, and small-scale tourism shape daily life, and traditional ways of living are still very much present. Donkeys remain essential for transporting goods in the mountainous terrain, and locals are busy working the fields as the day begins. Just a few kilometres from my hotel lie the famous Monkey Fingers rock formations — a surreal landscape where wind and water have sculpted soft limestone into smooth, rounded shapes resembling giant fingers reaching skyward. A narrow canyon winds between these rocks, carved by a seasonal river that can be hiked during cooler months. It’s a stunning and otherworldly place, popular with hikers and photographers alike. Continuing along the valley, I pass through villages such as Aït Ouglif and Imzzoudar, where many homes are built from traditional adobe mud bricks made from sand, mud, water, and straw. Along the banks of the Dades River, fertile oases support date palms, fig trees, pomegranate trees, almond trees, olive trees, and crops such as barley, wheat, and corn. The contrast between the lush riverbanks and the surrounding desert mountains is striking. Islam is the main religion in the region, and it plays an important role in everyday life. It’s common to see women wearing hijab headscarves and men dressed in traditional djellabas — long, loose-fitting robes well suited to the climate and terrain. As I ride through the villages, children greet passing travellers with smiles and curiosity, adding warmth to the journey. One of the highlights of the ride is the legendary Tissadrine Hairpins. At this point, the gorge narrows so dramatically that the road can no longer follow the river. Instead, it climbs high above the valley walls in a series of beautifully engineered switchbacks. With each hairpin, the views become more dramatic, offering breathtaking perspectives over the gorge below. Despite the steep terrain, the climb is manageable and incredibly rewarding. At the top of the pass sits a small hotel and restaurant, marking the highest point of the road. I stop for a well-earned Moroccan mint tea, enjoy the incredible views, and even meet some playful puppies outside. Camels grazing on thorny bushes nearby add to the sense of being somewhere truly unique. After descending back into the valley, the road squeezes through one of the most impressive sections of the gorge, running tightly between the river and towering rock walls. Eventually, I turn back before M’semrir, where the tarmac ends and the heat begins to rise. The return journey includes a tougher climb back up the hairpins from the north side, sightings of people living in caves along the canyon walls, and a thrilling descent with minimal traffic and perfect road conditions. As I pass back through the villages, the valley comes alive — farmers begin their work, goats cross the road, and daily life unfolds along the riverbanks. This ride through Dades Gorge was an unforgettable experience — a journey through raw landscapes, ancient traditions, and one of Morocco’s most incredible roads. The friendliness of the people and the beauty of the surroundings made this a place I’ll always remember. Thanks for watching. 🌄 Road Cycling Sierra Espuña | El Berro to Alhama de Murcia + Cuestas del Marqués Climb 🚴‍♀️🇪🇸 Join me for an epic afternoon ride in one of southeastern Spain’s most stunning hidden gems: Sierra Espuña Regional Park in the Murcia region. This scenic cycling vlog starts in the peaceful mountain village of El Berro, perched at around 600 m above sea level, and winds its way through quiet forest roads, panoramic viewpoints, and one amazing descent you won’t want to miss! ⸻ ✨ Ride Summary 📍 Start/End: El Berro 📏 Distance: ~30km 📈 Elevation Gain: ~800m 🥐 Coffee Stop: Fuente del Hilo (YES to pastries!) 📸 Highlights: Carretera Juan Bautista, Ricardo Codorníu visitor centre, descent to Alhama, Cuestas del Marqués climb, Gebas badlands views, hairpin heaven! ⸻ 💬 About This Ride I kicked off the ride with a steep little warm-up climb out of my hotel in El Berro — a quiet and incredibly pretty village that’s ideal for cyclists and hikers wanting to explore Sierra Espuña’s natural beauty. You’re surrounded by rugged, pine-covered mountains and deep ravines, with barely a car in sight. The route starts on Carretera Juan Bautista, winding gently into the heart of the Parque Regional de Sierra Espuña. This protected area spans over 25,000 hectares and climbs up past 1,500 metres in elevation. Once heavily deforested, the park was reforested in the late 1800s by the legendary Ricardo Codorníu, now known as “The Apostle of the Tree” — and it really shows! 🌲 The first half of the ride was a dream: smooth roads, pine forests, and minimal traffic. I cruised up to the Fuente del Hilo restaurant, a popular cyclist hangout tucked into the forest near the visitor centre. After a quick stop for some local pastries and a sandwich, I pushed on past the Ricardo Codorníu centre and dropped into an incredible 10km descent toward Alhama de Murcia. The descent? Honestly one of my favourites ever. No cars, no braking, no pedalling — just flowy curves through the trees with views that stretched all the way to the distant plains. Pure cycling bliss. 🌀💨 At the bottom, I turned away from the town and headed up the Cuestas del Marqués — a climb that winds its way 9km back up toward El Berro. It wasn’t too steep, which was lucky because my legs were already feeling it! But the scenery made it worth every pedal stroke: orchards, vineyards, dramatic ridgelines, and even views across to the Barrancos de Gebas, the surreal badlands below. Halfway up, I stopped for water, took in the view, and gathered my energy for the final push. Near the top, the road was packed with tight hairpin turns — super fun to ride and very Insta-worthy 😍 Before long, I rolled back into El Berro, sweaty and happy, after what turned out to be a perfect afternoon loop. ⸻ 📍 Why You Should Ride Here If you’re planning a cycling trip in southern Spain, Sierra Espuña should definitely be on your radar.
